DIY craft: Yarn-wrapped rainbow wall hanging

We’ve got you a vibrant DIY wall hanging craft activity idea that can be easily done at home. We’re talking about a yarn-wrapped rainbow wall hanging. It’s a great way to bring a splash of colour to your home this Spring. The best part is, it can be made with easily available materials like yarn, scissors, and glue among others.  

What you’ll need   

• ½ inch twisted cotton rope 
• Hot glue gun 
• Scissors 
• Floral wire or thin tape  

• Sewing needle 
• Hanger 
• Yarn of different colours of your choice 

How-to: 

Get these on a table, call your kids and start making the craft. Here’s a step-by-step guide for your kids to follow. 

• Lay out the rope in a rainbow shape. 
• Next, cut the rope on the slopes between each arch with the scissors. Since the rope is thick, cutting through all of the layers takes some effort. 
• Apply some tape to the rope's ends to keep it from fraying too soon. The fringe (also known as the clouds) will be the rope that is covered by the tape. 
• Add the floral wire to hold the rainbow arch. The wire is what helps the rope hold the rainbow shape. 
• One piece of wire, trimmed to the size of the exposed rope, is required for each arch. Attach the wire to the rope with tape. 

• Wrap the yarn around the rope. Begin by tying a knot at one end. Next, lay the tail of the yarn up on the rope. 
• After that, begin wrapping the yarn which will cover up the tail of the knot. Wrap the yarn securely, making sure there are no gaps or overlaps. 
• Tie a knot at the end of the rope, just before the tape, then cut the tail off. Place the knot on the outside of the arch so that the next arch will cover it. 
• Remove the tape and unwind the rope once each arch is completely wrapped. After lining up the rainbow, use a hot glue gun to attach the pieces. 
• You can also use a needle and thread to attach the arches of the rainbow. 

• Trim out the uneven ends of the rope. Finally, take a paper clip and glue it to the back of the hanger.
