DIY projects are fun, but craft objects are either too decorative to be used later, or not usable at all. Here is an exception to this rule. We are going to look at making a laptop case at home today. Needless to say, this is totally usable. Sewing skills are not needed for this, so kids above 10 years can easily make one. We have aimed the instructions for the parents though. Once you understand how to do it, just try it out once, and then get your kid to make their own laptop bag.
What you will need
Let’s begin by getting together everything you will need to make the laptop case.
All of these are available online and offline at any craft or office stationary store and does not cost much.
How will you make the laptop case
So here is the step by step guide to making the case. It should not take your kids more than 30 to 45 minutes to complete the project.
Step 1: Measure your laptop.
Step 2: Place your laptop on the cloth and mark its borders with the pencil and ruler.
Step 3: Draw a rectangle which is 2 cm extra along the edges than your laptop. Draw a second rectangle twice the size of the first.
Step 4: Measure in 1 cm from 3 sides of the smaller rectangle and half of the larger rectangle, and mark with the pencil. Put a dot every half cm inside the 1 cm border just drawn.
Step 5: Punch holes at each dot, holding the smaller rectangle upon the other.
Step 6: Keeping the rectangles in the same place, use the needle to loop in thread through each dot, joining them together.
Step 7: Now you have a rough bag. Half of the larger rectangle is free like a flap. You can decide the length of the flap according to your choice. Use the glue to stick the magnets on the bag and flap to create a closing mechanism.
Step 8: Paste any decoration, such as an applique cut-out, stickers, a cloth label to write your name on it or anything else you want.
How is this project useful
A laptop bag is a daily use accessory. It’s a practical but fun DIY project, and also makes a great gift with a personal touch.
