Is it possible to learn acting from online classes?

Acting is a skill honed through hours of practice and real-life experience. Those who teach acting were themselves trained in physical academies and workshops, and have actual experience of working as performing artists. Many of them are unable to imagine acting without even touching their co-actors. But other teachers have adapted, and very successfully, to online teaching methods. We have shared below some tactics teachers have adopted to make online acting classes a viable option, and not just a passing craze.  

Encouragement for shy students to learn online 
Building self-confidence and breaking stage-fright has always been a challenge with novice actors. Teachers discovered that learning online is not only a viable alternative, for some students it’s preferable. Online classes attracted students who were previously too intimidated to attend an acting class in person.  

Increased knowledge by learning from many sources 
Actors perform better when the know the rules, and can decide to play by them, mix them or break them. Online learning opened up multiple sources form where students picked up cues: Gaining this knowledge can be done in many ways: online libraries, course material prepared by experienced acting teachers, live teaching, YouTube videos, and even social media interaction. Comments received from the audience after live online performances also count as knowledge, as the feedback tells them immediately what they did right and what went wrong.  

Master classes from experts in live sessions   
Famous actors or senior teachers are not accessible easily in the real world. But in the virtual world, students from remote corners of the country could also interact directly with renowned and critically appreciated actors, and attend master classes by star acting instructors. This is one of the biggest reasons why the online acting classes are doing so well, and many institutes are eager to continue in this mode, or go hybrid, even after we get back to normal.  

Better chances of collaborative projects 
Even good actors sometimes suffer because they just don’t get that big break. Online classes facilitate collaborative projects where selection is much fairer as it happens on the basis of talent and interest in the project.  

Online acting classes are not just a trend, they are good learning opportunities.
