If your child is at any level in school from Class 1 to 12, and is an ace at English, here’s an interesting opportunity. The International Olympiad of English Language (iOEL), conducted by the SilverZone Foundation, is an acclaimed test to assess students' ability and knowledge in the English language. It is held every year at both national and international levels, and the syllabus is tied up with CBSE, ICSE, and state boards.
How does the exam work and when does it happen?
SilverZone iOEL is a three-level exam. The top 1000 rank holders of level 1 from each class are eligible to compete in level 2. The first rank holders of iOEL level 2 exams of per class are eligible for level 3. The exam happens both at schools and online, with the final physical exam happening in New Delhi. Kids who score above 75% in English at school are eligible to take this exam.
Dates are changeable, but registration usually closes in August. All 3 levels for offline and online exams finish by January. Results are declared in March every year.
How to prepare for iOEL?
Here are a few quick tips to prepare your child for iOEL:
Get the updated syllabus and books: The syllabus keeps changing, so make sure you are following the approved and updated syllabus directly from the test website. Books are available with SilverZone itself, so we suggest you buy these and treat them as text books for your kid.
Download free sample papers: A lot of websites keep free sample test papers for iOEL and papers of previous years are also available online. Get your kid to attempt these only after they have gone through the syllabus and finished the books. Trying the papers without studying may discourage kids as they would find it confusing and difficult.
Start preparation early in the year: If you are aiming to register your child for the test, start them with the preparation from the beginning of the year, the latest being August. Kids can’t prepare for the test at the cost of regular studies, nor should they do badly due to lack of study time. It takes at least 3 months to prepare for iOEL.
