You might find it weird, but there are many people around the globe who are obsessed with trains and are often deemed as train geeks or rail enthusiasts. In fact, there’s a fancy term for these rail enthusiasts who study train as a hobby: ‘ferroequinologist.’ Here’s some good news for them. Now, India has a high-speed bullet train called the New Vande Bharat Express. It recently had its trial run between Gujarat’s Ahmedabad to Maharashtra’s Mumbai. Believe it or not, it has managed to break the previous record of a Japanese bullet train (which runs at 100 kmph in 54 seconds) by achieving a speed of 100 kilometres per hour in only 52 seconds.
This recent record-breaking feat by the Vande Bharat Express was part of its third rake’s trial run that was completed with a green signal from the Railway Safety Commissioner. In fact, with this latest success, the Indian Railways is now planning to start bulk production, making 72 trains ready by 2023.
Interestingly, the railway ministry is not just focussing on making high-speed trains but also maintaining the tracks for their successful operations. Thus, when the latest trial run didn’t even shake a fully-loaded water class even when the train reached a speed of 180 kmph, the news created a nation-wide sensation. Earlier, the first batch of Vande Bharat Express could only run at a speed of 160 kmph and reach 100 kmph in 54.6 seconds, both of which have been upgraded in the recent batch.
In case you have been wondering what else does the New Vande Bharat Express offers other than its exemplary speed, here’s a sneak peek – this indigenously manufactured self-propelled train is equipped with superior amenities for increased passenger travel experience such as Wi-Fi, 32-inch LCD TVs, energy-efficient ACs with dust-free clean air cooling, and a side recliner seat facility for all classes, that was previously available to only executive class passengers. The advance state-of-the-art features also include automatic fire sensors, CCTV cameras, three-hour battery backup, GPS systems, and a photocatalytic ultraviolet air purification system to filter and clean the air free from germs, bacteria, viruses, in turn replacing the toxic air with fresh air.
Are you excited to aboard the New Vande Bharat Express for your next train ride? Well, so are we!
