Cooking is a necessary life skill for everyone including children. It is in fact, a fun learning process. Practising cooking helps in the development of reading and math skills as well. Cooking is beneficial for kids as it helps in enhancing their neuro-motor development and infusing healthy eating habits among them. For kids aged between 5 and 7 years, kitchen activities can mean washing fruits and vegetables, chopping soft ingredients, kneading dough and setting the dinner table; all under proper parental supervision. Children from 8-12 years can involve themselves in meal planning and can also take up individual responsibilities like using an oven, peeling fruits, garnishing and serving food. Kids who are 12 years and above may handle complex recipes alongside dividing portions during meals and following detailed instructions to prepare a final dish.
