Peer learning is an age-old concept. It is approved by the National Education Policy 2020, as a means of a revolutionary peer learning module for elementary education. As the saying goes “to teach is to learn,” the concept of peer learning is similar to an active learning strategy used by many schools across the world. Students get to interact with their peers, express their ideas and learn from each other without any supervising authority. It is believed that students talk the most when the teacher is not around but it is also true that students learn the most when they are left alone. Peer learning leads to a mutual academic benefit when peers share ideas and experiences. It helps develop responsible and autonomous learners. Student engagement increases when they are given the responsibility of learning on their own, thereby increasing collaboration and communication. Watch this video where Ms. Nina Pandey, Principal, Gurukul Global School, Chandigarh, talks about the importance of peer learning.
