This year, Hero MotoCorp under its CSR initiative, Hero We Care, collaborated with Hindustan Times for the third session of the 'Be a Road Hero' campaign. The campaign aimed to raise mass awareness about road safety, which has resulted in close to 4 lakh Indians taking the road hero pledge. As part of the initiative, HT School has also taken steps to educate students about road safety rules through a short video course and a quiz. So far, more than 10,000 students have pledged to be a Road Hero. Here’s what students, teachers and principals from the participating schools had to say.
Dr. Manisha Sharma, Principal, Venkateshwar International School
believes that being safe on roads is of utmost importance while it comes to reaching home to our loved ones. Applauding this effort, she said, “It’s a great initiative by Hindustan Times along with Hero MotoCorp towards instilling a sense of responsibility among our students. It was indeed a great learning experience for our students about road safety and traffic rules.”
Welcoming the road safety campaign as an innovative way of teaching students about road safety behavior, Seema Chauhan, a teacher at the Apeejay School, said, “Children were sensitised and made aware about road safety. They also got new insights into road user behavior as well as preventive measures to be taken to avoid road accidents,”.
Seema Dubey, also a teacher from Ahlcon Public School, gave a thumbs-up to this remarkable road safety drive. Expressing her thoughts, she mentioned, “Our students thoroughly enjoyed watching the informative videos that explained road safety rules in a fun and easy-to-grasp manner. This was followed by a quiz based on the videos which enhanced children’s knowledge about traffic rules all the more.”
Not just educationists, students also appreciated the innovative road safety campaign rolled out by Hero MotoCorp in collaboration with Hindustan Times.
Akanksha Chaudhary, a class 12th student at Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute and one of the participants of the campaign, found it to be an ‘amazing initiative’. Sharing her experience, Chaudhary said, “Road safety regimes are poorly understood and implemented in our country. That is why programmes like these are essential to spread the message effectively. This experience helped me learn a lot and share the knowledge with those around me.”
Talking about his experience in the campaign, Jayan Kalra, a class 9th student of Mayoor School said, “With road accidents and fatalities rising alarmingly, this road safety awareness campaign is a commendable effort to sensitize the current road users and the future ones too.”
According to Mount Abu Public School student, Priya Tripathi, the road safety campaign was a laudable initiative towards making Indian roads safer. Narrating her experience, she shared, “In the beginning of the campaign, I was told to take a pledge on road safety rules and regulations as guided. After taking the pledge, I watched the videos in which all the rules were well-explained with real-life incidences and very interesting animations.”
Ahana Malhotra thanked Hero MotoCorp and HT School for this wonderful awareness. “I believe that it is very important to teach and bring awareness about road safety to children right from an early age. This initiative will go a long way in raising responsible road users.”, said the class 7th student of Delhi Public School.
The young generation will grow up to be responsible, mature citizens if they are made aware of traffic safety standards from school days. It will make our roads safer, reducing road accidents. Hence, educating students about road safety is the need of the hour.
